Current Chaos Theory teaches us that "order" and "chaos" are actually complementary forces and not opposite or enemy ones. Chaos and order depend on each other as much as light and shadow do. Nature is composed of mathematical structures, but without the dynamism of chaos, it withers and dies. Paintings are built from hundreds of seemingly chaotic brushstrokes that coalesce into a coherant image.
But now, we're careening headlong into pure chaos, strangling ourselves with our own power cords. Automated voicemail menus approach the seven levels of Hell. Information overload is the new plague.
Art can help us reconnect to our basic human emotions, bringing us a sense of balance and helping us to realize we are all on the same canvas. My paintings invite you to step out of the chaos, for at least a moment, and reflect on a mood or sentiment.
